This composition is written for 2005 Acanthes Music Festival. I have adapted a melodic tune “Ye-shen-chen”(“The deep night”) from Chinese Peking opera in this work.

As derivative tones being an important feature in Asian music, for instance, Gamelan of Indonesia, A-ak of Korea, Gagaku of Japan, the derivative tones in this work are used to segment the tune of “Ye-shen-chen”(“The deep night”) into various fragments for further elaboration and transformation. The derivative tones are organized through the concept of single tones. Different musical elements, such as timber, instrumentation, texture.….etc., are mingled with different sizes of derivatives tones to form different entities of single tones.
