One of the ideas piloting the composition of this piece was to exercise a time manipulation strategy other than stretching or zooming-in. I’ve done this by circuitously navigating different readings of otherwise nearly timeless events. Short fragments of a sound recording were processed and spectrally analysed. Then each analysis re-synthesized/orchestrated for the ensemble using a variety of reading and rendering techniques to create multiple versions of each event. These events, now at a pre-score stage, were combined and orchestrally sown together to expand the original event’s duration, as well as to open the possibility of freely re-fashioning its dynamic and timbral contours.
