This presentation introduces some new paradigms for digital graphic notation being used internationally today, as employed by the Australian new music ensemble, Decibel. Using the ensemble as a practice led research model, a range of approaches to digital graphic notation have been developed and examined, through commissioning, technical development, trail and commercial development. The Decibel ScorePlayer iPad application will be introduced, an App developed within the ensemble to enable the reading and publication of digital editions of graphic scores from a wide range of stylistic avenues. In addition, the groups work on a digital real-time score generator for John Cage’s Variations I, II, III, IV and VI, in conjunction with Peters Editions will be discussed. A range of score formats will be covered and illustrated with audio visual examples.
