This talk proposes an overview of IRCAM's R&D activities (organization, goals, main research topics and software applications) and highlights on HC2-related research including gesture/sound interaction, symbolic interaction, sound spatialization and spatial cognition.
Hugues Vinet, as IRCAM's Scientific Director, has since 1994 headed IRCAM 's R&D Department, including the STMS (Science and technology of music and sound) IRCAM-CNRS-UPMC joint research unit. He also manages IRCAM technology development and transfer: 12 advanced software environments disseminated through IRCAM Forum, the IRCAM Tools professional plug-in collection, and several dozens technology licenses with companies worldwide. His fields of interest include digital audio signal processing, HCI, music knowledge engineering, and the epistemology of relations between art, science and technology. He has been coordinator of R&D projects at EU and National levels. After a scientific and musical education, he previously worked as Chief Engineer at INA (French National Institute of Audiovisual) where he headed the research activities on music technology and noticeably designed the awards winning GRM Tools product.
