Eryck Abecassis was born in Algiers in 1956. He moved to Paris in 1976 to study cinema, working in parallel as a photographer. In 1979, he made a definitive turn to music, studying composition with Julien Falk while teaching himself to compose. He quickly became interested in IRCAM’s instrumental research workshops, and later participated in Cursus (IRCAM’s composition and computer music course). He began scoring for film in 1986. He has also worked with Compagnie Les Passagers, an aerial street performance group that mixes dance, visual arts, and music. His music has been performed by groups such as Ensemble Erwartung, Ensemble Accroche-Note, the Octuor de Violoncelles (cello octet) de Beauvais, Insieme, Ensemble 2e2m, Equinox Trio, and Ensemble Fa.
