Jummei Suzuki was born in Tokyo in 1970. He studied music theory and composition with Ichiro Nodaïra at the Tokyo University of the Arts, graduating with a Master’s in composition in 2000. In 1997, he also studied composition with Gérard Grisey, and later Marco Stroppa, orchestration with Marc-André Dalbavie, and music technology with Laurent Cuniot, Yann Geslin, and Luis Naon at the Paris Conservatory (CNSMDP). He has received prizes in numerous composition competitions, including the 64th Japanese Music Competition, the 18th Japanese Symphony Foundation Prize, and International Gaudeamus Music Week. In 1999, he was awarded a grant from the Japanese government. In 2000, he studied with Brian Ferneyhough, José Evangelista, and Jean-Luc Hervé during the Voix Nouvelles workshop at Royaumont.
