Nicolas Bacri was born in 1961 in Paris. He studied piano, analysis, music theory, and composition with Françoise Gangloff, Christian Manen, and, starting in 1979, with Louis Sager.

In 1983, he graduated with highest honors (premier prix) in composition from the Paris Conservatory (CNSM), where he studied under Serge Nigg and Michel Philippot). That same year, he was awarded a residency at the Villa Medici in Rome.

From 1991 to 1993, he was awarded residency at the Casa Velasquez in Madrid.

In 1993, he was invited by Pour que l’esprit vive to be a composer-in-residence at the Domaine de La Prée (Indre, France), where he co-organized the annual Rencontres Musicales de La Prée. In 1995, he was appointed as the first composer-in-residence of the Orchestre Symphonique Français, and upon its dissolution was appointed composer-in-residence with the Orchestre de Picardie.

In addition to his work as a composer, Bacri has worked as the Director of Chamber Music for Radio France. He has received commissions from the French Ministry of Culture, Radio-France, and numerous ensembles and festivals in France and abroad.

He has composed more than one hundred works, including orchestral works, operas, cantatas, and chamber works.
