Images of a Work #12: La pierre et l’étang (…les temps…) by Ivan Fedele

We can almost see a Proust-like experience in the creation of La pierre et l’étang (…les temps…). The musical work finds its inspiration in a children’s game. A simple game that we have all played; who among us hasn’t thrown a pebble in water? Throwing a mass of stones in the water, skipping pebbles, or letting them fall like rain, these images have inspired Ivan Fedele. A metaphorical tour de force that turns the orchestra and its soloists into a protean, changing sculpture and the score is the opportunity to include motion capture technologies in the compositional process, letting the audience hear the musicality of the instrumental gesture and reinforcing the spectacular poetry of the orchestral space.

A documentary written and produced by Jérémie Szpirglas and Christian Bahier
