vvvv is a visual programming environment with a focus on interactive media, in development since around 2000. Initially greatly influenced by Max and PD, we created a new system, because we had a lot of our own ideas as to how visual programming should work, look and feel. Also our main medium was realtime graphics rather than audio, which Max and PD already excelled in.

In terms of language paradigms, vvvv today combines dataflow with features of object-oriented programming. Without the need to resort back to text programming, a vvvv user can create and instantiate classes of objects, use interfaces, loops, generics, delegates and asynchronously execute parts of their patches.

Besides those features, vvvv comes with a vast node library and speaks many common protocols like MIDI, OSC, DMX, UDP… which makes it a versatile collaborator for interactive media productions.
